Greetings, members of Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course! A special congratulations
go out to Shirley Weaver and Jordan Byrd for a rare feat they accomplished: Hole-In-One’s.
Shirley accomplished hers on May 30th on hole number 12 and Jordan his on June 5th
on hole number 16. Is it just me, or do we seem to have some of the best golfers
in the county?
The month of July, Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course is hosting the Friday play of the Wayne County Men’s Amateur Golf Championship. For a medal play tournament, this is one of the best in the area. 144 golfers will be vying to be known as the best amateur golfer in Wayne County. Many in the field are from our very own course. Come out and watch if you can. This is a good time to have a short discussion on my views on preparing to play tournament golf. Tournament golf is golf that is played on that mysterious playing field 5 “ between your ears. Sound familiar? How do you prepare for it? I’ll tell you what I TRY to do. Have a prepared game play. Write out each hole on each course and how you intend to play it and do you best to stick with that plan. Arrive at each course a minimum of one hour before. When you arrive at the course, put everything into slow motion. Stay relaxed. Check in and go to the putting green. Work nothing but on recognizing the speed of the greens and getting into a tempo. Next go to the driving range and work on you chipping and pitching. Again work on tempo and feel. Proceed to hitting balls starting with your wedge and moving to your driver using either odd or even numbered clubs. Always end each shot with a good one. 5 to 10 balls with each club should be enough. Pay particular attention to your ball flight for the day. Remember, ‘Dance with who ya brung’. End you range warm-up by hitting a few wedges. Proceed back to the putting green next to your assigned first tee and stroke a few 2-foot putts. Pay attention to the sound the ball makes as it rattles in the cup. Remember, golf is played one stroke at a time. Enjoy |
