"Rules of Golf Challenge"

So you think you know the rules to this game we all love so much? Now is your chance to show just how well you do know the rules of golf and win valuable prizes at the same time. The Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course will be sponsoring a monthly "Rules of Golf Challenge" contest beginning in February. No purchase will be necessary to enter and you do not have to be a GMGC member to participate. Here are the rules for our contest, and if you have questions, call the pro shop at 735-0411. RULES OF GOLF CONTEST QUESTION
FOR MAY 2003

Jack and Ray have hit their tee shots on GMGC’s long and difficult 433 yard par 4 second hole. Jack’s second shot comes to rest in front of the green, in the fringe, just 8 inches from the putting surface and his ball has picked up a big glob of mud. Ray leaves his second shot three feet short of the green, on the same line to the hole as Jack’s ball. Ray elects to putt his ball to the green and asks Jack to mark and move his ball. Under the Rules of Golf, what is Jack allowed to do?

A. Properly mark his ball, clean it, and replace it in the same location after Ray has played.
B. Move his ball out of Ray’s line, no closer to the hole, and play it from that spot.
C. Properly mark his ball without cleaning it, and replace it the same location after Ray has played.
D. Tell Ray to play a chip shot over his ball.

Winners this month will receive a red, white, and blue USA head cover. Drawings will be held every Monday morning.

Contest Rules

1. Rules questions will be selected each month by the GMGC staff for that month's contest. The questions will be crafted to reflect situations that relate specifically to Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course.

2. The rules question will be published each month in the GMGC newsletter, the first Sunday of each month in the Goldsboro News Argus, and will be posted each month in the GMGC pro shop and on the GMGC web site.

3. Individuals wishing to enter must submit their answer to the question on forms available in the GMGC pro shop, in person only, at the GMGC pro shop. Entries will not be accepted by phone, mail, fax, or e-mail.

4. Individuals entering the contest will have two chances to win each month. The names of all individuals who submit the correct answer will be entered in a drawing to be held every Monday morning in the GMGC pro shop. In this drawing, two names will be drawn at random, with each winner receiving a pre-determined prize. Prizes will not be negotiable. Individuals may not win more than one weekly prize each month. The names of all individuals submitting the correct answer will remain in the "pot" until the last day of the month, when one name will be selected, by random drawing, for a free round of golf, including green and cart fee, at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course. GMGC members will be allowed to use this grand prize as one cart fee or they will be allowed to bring a non-member guest for one round of golf, including green and cart fee. This prize must be redeemed within 60 days of award. You do not have to be present to win either of the drawings. At the end of the year, one name will be selected, by random drawing, from all of the weekly and monthly winners, for a years end grand prize.

5. In the event of a disputed decision, the United States Golf Association will be consulted. The ruling of the USGA will be final.

6. GMGC staff, employees, and their families are not eligible.
